Zaman Film Festival
Brand Identity Design
The Brand Identity
The project's objective was to design a brand identity for an imaginary festival. It was important that the brand identity can be effectively applied onto multiple different platforms, including a poster, printed tickets, phone tickets, press passes, and more. One of the challenges was to make it look cohesive on both screen and print applications. Another requirement was to make everything bilingual.
I decided to design a brand identity for a hypothetical film festival called Zaman. A film festival that would take place in Dubai, and focuses specifically on old films/the classics. Since it is in Dubai, I used English and Arabic. The festival is called Zaman, because Zaman is an Arabic word used when reminiscing/remembering old memories, which connects to the goal of the festival, allowing people to re-experience and watch films that they may have watched in the past.
To make the identity strong, easily distinguishable, and unique, I created a custom wordmark for the name of the festival (Zaman). The overall design of Zaman's identity is inspired by art deco, which is reflected through the geometric film strip pattern, the wordmark, and the combination of gold and black. This helped achieve the classic and sophisticated look that successfully reflects what the film festival is all about (the old/classic films).
