Details and Design Workshop
Brand Identity Design
The Project
As designers, we often like to say that we pay high attention to detail in critiques, conversations, job applications, etc. However, sometimes it can feel as though we can get lost in the details and lose the bigger picture of a project. I became interested in the relationship between different levels of attention to detail and creativity, and wanted to explore this topic for my thesis project through research. I started questioning how different levels of attention to detail impact creativity, and how a better understanding of this relationship can help designers come up with better design solutions and/or ideas. I began working on this project by doing both primary and secondary research, and then analyzing the information that I gathered.
The Brand Identity
Eventually, I came up with Details and Design, a hypothetical workshop for designers that would take place in Toronto. Participants would try out activities that give them personalized results on the relationship between attention to detail and creativity. The brand identity focuses on the idea of a personal creative journey. There are so many possible paths that designers can take, but each designer takes their own unique path when learning about their creativity. This is represented visually in the logo as it uses lines to mimic the shape of a maze. Some applications use a complete maze, like the posters on the right hand side. This makes it interactive and engaging.
Prompt Card Activity
The image above is what would be handed out to each participant for the workshop activity. Each participant would get an instruction sheet and three random prompt cards. After finishing the activity and answering the questions, they'd be able to compare their answers in the same way that I did while working on my primary research.
Participant Package
The image below is the participant package, which would also be handed out to each participant to take home. This package acts as a reminder that learning about their creativity doesn't end after the workshop, but is something that they can continue to keep learning about throughout their careers. It includes a workbook, pins, sticker, all in a tote bag.
The Workbook
As shown above, one of the things that are included in the participant package is a workbook. This workbook is essentially all the activities that I did for my primary research in a format that is structured almost like a journal for participants to fill in. The prompt card activity is meant to be something that they could do during the workshop with others in one sitting, and the workbook takes these activities further,
allowing participants to work on them in their own time as well. Below is the cover and some spreads from the workbook. All of which is designed in a similar way to everything else for the workshop, ensuring that the brand identity is applied in a consistent way for all applications.
